# RateBench — Overview

> RateBench reads the rate files payers must publish and gives an independent medical practice its own contracted rates, by CPT code, across its payers — then checks it is paid them and flags when a rate moves.

## What it is

RateBench turns the machine-readable "Transparency in Coverage" files every U.S.
commercial payer is federally required to publish into a practice's own
contracted fee schedule: the negotiated rate for each CPT code, for the
practice's NPI, laid out with one column per payer. Every number traces to the
payer's own file — there is no invented benchmark and no estimate except where
the file itself marks a rate "derived".

## Who it is for

Independent medical practices of roughly 2–10 providers — the office manager or
biller — who have no dedicated payer-contracting staff.

## What you can do

- **Fee schedule**: your contracted rate for the codes you bill, at each payer you
take, in one sheet, pulled from the payers' own files. See https://ratebench.health/features/fee-schedule
- **Underpayment check**: upload your allowed-amount totals by code; RateBench
flags codes paid below the rate your payer published for you. Aggregates only,
no patient data leaves your computer. See https://ratebench.health/features/underpayments
- **Monitoring**: payers republish monthly; RateBench re-reads every payer on
your fee schedule on the 1st of each month and emails you which rates moved,
  by how much. See https://ratebench.health/features/monitoring
- **Free single-rate lookup**: one payer, one NPI, the six codes the practice's
specialty bills most (office visits, psychotherapy, physical therapy,
chiropractic and so on, from its NPI registry listing), emailed to you — no
account. When a payer is slow to answer, the page says the rates are on
their way and they follow by email. Dental plans publish no rate files, so
dental practices are told so. A practice the payer's published network files
don't list is told so, with what to try next: for an organisation NPI, the
group's tax ID or one clinician's NPI, and the lookup runs again under that
tax ID. A mistyped NPI is caught before the lookup, and a payer that doesn't
serve the practice's state is named, with the payers read in that state.
Free: 2 lookups a month per email with no account; 10 a month with a free
account, which also keeps the rates saved from a lookup. Allowances reset on
the 1st of each month (UTC), and looking up the same NPI and payer again in
the same month doesn't use another.

## Coverage

66 payers are live with verified dollar rates — the local Blue plan in 49 states and DC, plus UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Ambetter, Oscar and Medicare —
across 51 states. See
https://ratebench.health/payers

## Pricing

See https://ratebench.health/pricing.md — Practice $99/mo, Group $499/mo,
add-ons per specialty and location, annual = 2 months free.
Larger groups and channel partners: contact via the pricing page.

## Data and privacy

Rates come only from payers' public federally-required files. The underpayment
check reads and aggregates remittance data inside the user's browser; only counts
by code reach RateBench — never a claim or a patient identifier.
